Pupil Support
Paisley Academy strives to address the needs of those pupils who, for whatever reason, require additional support for learning. Additional support needs arise from any factor which causes a barrier to learning, whether that factor relates to social, emotional, cognitive, linguistic, disability, or family and care circumstances. For instance, additional support may be required for a pupil who has behavioural difficulties, has learning difficulties, has sensory or mobility impairment, is at risk, or is bereaved.
A number of pupils in the school require some additional support, both in class and in other areas of school life. Some pupils have Addition Support Needs, which can very greatly from pupil to pupil, and could require Learning Support and/or Behaiour Support.
We work in partnership with subject departments, Guidance staff and Home Link to ensure that we share necessary information about pupils. Our aim is to support pupils' learning throughout the School to enable them to achieve their potential. Pupils can be supported in class or, where approapriate, they can attend the Support Base where they can work one-to-one with support staff or in a smaller group.
The Pupil Support Department also has to ensure that applications for special arrangements in external examinations, (scribing, use of laptop, extra time etc), are made for those pupils who require them.
